Directors Sylvia Archer and Theresa Ellerby have worked in education for more than thirty years each. Theresa managed the area's first Montessori nursery developing an enviable reputation for quality pre-school education, whilst Sylvia managed and developed a group of nine nurseries across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.

In 2000, Sylvia & Theresa established the children's house nursery in a converted barn on a working farm in Stallingborough, North East Lincolnshire. Identifying a need for quality pre-school education using the Montessori philosophy, the 45 place nursery and Out of School Club served a wide catchment area across northern Lincolnshire.

It soon became clear that parents valued the quality of experience and environment offered at the children's house, and Sylvia and Theresa sought to extend the provision. Commissioning award winning architect Ric Blenkharn of Bramhall Blenkharn, Malton, the Directors began work on the design of a state-of-the-art children's space, fit for the 21st century. Following successful bids to New Opportunities Fund, Single Regeneration Budget, European Regional Development Fund, Neighbourhood Nurseries Initiative and Countryside Agency a new build nursery, adjacent to the exiting site, was opened in April 2003.

Later in 2003, the former nursery was converted into the montessori school - an independent day school for children from 4-11, which follows the Montessori philosophy at Elementary stage. The building also houses an expanded and popular breakfast, after school and holiday club.

In 2009, the school moved to a new site and was joined by a new nursery at Top House, Caistor. Set in ten acres of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) the former coaching inn and holiday cottages have undergone transformation to create a Montessori centre for the 21st century. The site now hosts nursery, school, out of school provision and Montessori Teacher Training Centre.

The Caistor and Stallingborough sites are now known as Lincolnshire Montessori.
